What Society is Perfect For You?: SMU Society Quiz

Choosing a society that is right for you can be a difficult task. Considering SMU hosts dozens of societies it can be very intimidating to pick which one is a good fit.. It may seem like an obvious choice to go with an academic society that aligns with your major, but you never know if there are other options out there if you do not explore. Instead of making you go on a search by yourself I’ve constructed a quiz for you to help with your journey to find the perfect society! Here is some information to help you get started. Below you will find a list of options that correspond with a letter (A, B, C, D, etc). While you answer these questions, keep track of what letters you get based on your answer. Once you finish the quiz you will find the society that works the best for you based on the letter you got the most. You may have multiple choices at the end of the quiz!

Question 1: What is your ideal weekend activity?

A: Relaxing, studying and/or watching a documentary 

B: Going to the movies, watching a live performance or engaging in a stimulating conversation with friends

C: Spending time with friends, making new friends, learning about new people

D: Hiking, playing games outside and/or exploring nature 

E: Budgeting, creating new projects, designing something, brainstorming sustainable business opportunities

F: Watching some ancient greek plays, learning about myths, looking into new artifacts

H: Playing video games 

Question 2: What is most important to you in a university experience? 

A: Learning and finding out new ways to help humanity 

B: Finding a group of people that have your similar interests 

C: Meeting new people 

D: Having a nice and environmentally friendly campus, nice places to study and lots of natural light!

E: Learning how to be better suited for life after university and achieving a job that will make you good money

F: Learning about prior centuries to understand why things exist the way they do today

H: Having a low stress outlet to partake in after classes 

 
 

Question 3: Why would you want to join a society?

A: To find study buddies and people who are in my same academic field

B: To have fun

C: To acquaint myself with people of different cultures, or my own culture, and make a difference at SMU for minority groups

D: To take advantage of the nature around Halifax

E: To mingle and make connections

F: To meet people who also enjoy learning about myths and divulging in history

H: To partake in something that does not have to do with academics that consists of interacting with people and playing games

Congrats! You finished all the questions. Make sure you have kept track of what letters you got, this will determine what society is perfect for you! 

If you Got Mostly As your perfect society is one of the following: 

The SMU Psychology Society, The SMU Sociology Society, The SMU Criminology Society or The SMU Forensics Society 

These societies may all deal with academic study but they still pride themselves on providing spaces for fun and laid back activities to get people making friends! 

If you Got Mostly B’s your perfect society is one of the following: 

The SMU Debate Society or The SMU Drama Society

These societies simultaneously provide fun events and external opportunities that require extra commitment levels! These societies provide life skills like public speaking and confidence.

If you got Mostly C’s your perfect society is one of the following: 

The SMU Pride Society, The SMU Black Student Society, The SMU Palestinian Society, The SMU Islamic Relief Society, The SMU Indian Society, The SMU Muslim Society, The SMU Bangladeshi Students Society, The SMU Irish Society, The SMU Caribbean Society, The SMU Desi Society, The SMU Cultural Exploration Society  

These societies all have a diverse group of students that are focused on creating change and providing safe spaces for students. If you want to meet new people or learn about different people and cultures these societies will help you broaden your view of the world!

If you got Mostly D’s your perfect society is one of the following:

SMU Outdoors Society, SMU Environmental Society, SMU Geology Society, SMU Biology Society

These societies all have some love put towards some aspect of the earth. They provide events that get students outdoors and connecting with nature. 

If you got Mostly E’s your perfect society is one of the following:

The SMU Commerce Society, The SMU Investment Society, Saint Mary’s Enactus, The SMU Engineering Society, The SMU Accounting Society

These societies all have major networking opportunities and opportunities to develop someone's entrepreneurship skills! 

If you got Mostly F’s your perfect society is:

The Ancient Studies Society

This society works by providing a space for ancient Greek lovers to geek out with fellow students and learn more about the vast topic. 

If you got Mostly H’s your perfect society is the: 

SMU F1 Society 

If you join this society you will definitely have fun participating in F1 Competitions with fellow lovers of the sport!
