What is the Journal?
The Journal is Saint Mary's University's only independent student ran publication. Founded in the 1960s, the Journal has provided a voice for SMU students for decades. Our team focuses on delivering relevant, high-quality, and consistent content written by students for the Saint Mary's community.
In January 2020, the Journal converted from a traditional paper publication to a modern eco-friendly digital format. The Journal is proud to cover several student-relevant topics, including the Saint Mary's University's Student's Association (SMUSA), alumni, athletics, arts & culture, and much more.
Every year the Journal recruits SMU students to write, edit, manage, and govern the society. Team members learn about writing, journalism, editing, ad sales, finance, marketing, leadership, and board governance. The Journal is thrilled to pay students for their contributions to the Journal while also helping to build valuable skills.
The Journal's team consists of an Executive Director, Executive Editor, Assistant Editors, and of course, writers. The Journal Publishing Society manages the Journal, a recognized society under the Province of Nova Scotia's society act. The Journal Publishing Society is governed by a seven-person board of directors who pass society policies and curates the society's strategic direction.
If you'd like to contact the Journal, you can do that on our website's contact page. Don't forget to follow the Journal on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. While you're at it, subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of our website!
