Saint Mary's Habitat for Humanity society is a group of students dedicated to volunteering their time and efforts to help build homes for people who are underprivileged or, in recent years, have been affected by natural disasters. The SMU chapter of Habitat for Humanity takes the initiative every year to volunteer locally and internationally with other branches of Habitat. Members work closely with the Nova Scotia Habitat for Humanity by volunteering with the organization and participate in the Halifax/Dartmouth Restores and local builds that are in Spyrfield. Their objective is to bring communities together to help families build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.

The society usually travels to the southern states of the United States of America during spring break as Canadian winters do not allow for the society to build houses. This year they will be travelling by bus, the much-anticipated trip is approximately 30 hours each way, to a small town in South Carolina called Goose Creek. Members will be volunteering their time and effort into building houses for two single mothers and their families. Recently, they hosted the "Roll the Dice" event as a fundraising event for the trip.

All university students are welcome to take part in this international trip as the society still has some spots to be filled. It is a ten days trip starting from the 14th of February to the 23rd of February. Their main stops include New York, Myrtle Beach, and Boston. The students would be volunteering Monday-Thursday with the Berkeley County chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

The total cost for students to participate in this trip is only $600, which covers the accommodations, transportation, breakfast (Monday-Friday) and lunch (Monday-Thursday). Students will be staying in a church mission house in dorm-room style rooms with bunk beds. The only things that members would be responsible for are their suppers, meals when on the route, excursions, and shopping expenses.
