Picture this. You’re sitting in the bleachers of Huskies Stadium surrounded by fans. The score is tied. The final few moments of the game tick down. Everyone is silent, waiting in anticipation. Then the Huskies score, the cheers erupt, and the Huskies win! There’s nothing better than a home crowd.

The sports scene at Saint Marys’ University is a rich environment filled with excitement, entertainment, and exhilaration. One of the best ways to experience university life is to get involved with sports at SMU. Whether you’re an athlete, spectator, or simply want to have a fun day out with friends, SMU offers many sports for you to enjoy.

Saint Mary’s Huskies varsity teams compete across Atlantic Canada as part of Atlantic University Sport. This governing organisation is responsible for presiding over university sports at all eleven of its member universities, some of which include recognisable names such as Dalhousie’s Tigers, Acadia’s Axemen and Axewomen, and StFX’s X-Men and X-Women.

SMU and its athletes continue making their mark across Atlantic Canada’s sports, hosting games and travelling to competitions. Notable achievements in the past ten years as part of AUS include four Women’s Basketball championships, three Women’s Hockey championships, and one Men’s Basketball championship.

Whether they’re competing in a championship or maximising team points, our Huskies always give it their best. Get a front-row seat to brilliant splays of teamwork and athleticism at any of our home games.

The Varsity sports teams at SMU consist of Huskies Football, Rugby, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Hockey, Volleyball, Cross Country and Track and Field.
